Washing your carpet in the washing machine is the easiest way to get the mildew smell out of your carpet. It isn’t as simple as putting it into the machine and turn it on, you will need to follow a few different steps and methods to ensure the mildew or mold is removed properly that was causing the smell.

Step 1. Take the carpet and look for any mildew or mold marks on the carpet that the machine might not wash out. If you find any, just take a scrub brush along with some dish soap or detergent and brush the stain areas with warm water or whatever soap you choose to use.

Step 2. Once you brush the area and loosen up some of the stains from the mildew or mold, you can now place the carpet in the washing machine to wash out the mildew smell. Put the machine on the coldest water setting for 30 minutes, and then add your favorite laundry detergent.

Step 3. Let the machine wash the carpet, and when it is done, you can put it into the dryer and dry it properly. Ensure that the carpet is dried properly before you place it back on the floor. Once it is dry, you can enjoy your fresh smelling carpet.

Removing Mildew From Your Carpet By Washing It By Hand

Washing your carpets by hand is the next method you can use, but it will take some elbow grease. This method is perfect for carpets of different types of material that are too delicate to wash in the washing machine. This method can be used on for suede, fur, and regular material carpets.

  • Laundry Detergent

Step 1. Fill a cleaning container with warm water and add half a cup of the laundry detergent into the water. Mix the water around and use the stub brush and brush the carpet clean. You can now place the carpet into the dryer and dry the carpet.

The methods below should be used when your carpet isn’t dirt and mold or mildew isn’t present on the carpet. If none of that is present, you can use any of the methods below to remove the smell of the mildew.
