Carpets can have a smell to them if they are wet and leftover time without drying properly. Carpets come in many different materials and sizes, so you will need the best method.
Some carpets are made of suede, fur, leather, and a lot more different materials. I will give a few different methods to clean these different types of carpets. You will need a few items to clean the carpet if you want to use the homemade method I will teach you.
How to Get Mildew Smell Out Of Carpet By Washing It In A Washing Machine
Washing your carpet in the washing machine is the easiest way to get the mildew smell out of your carpet. It isn’t as simple as putting it into the machine and turn it on, you will need to follow a few different steps and methods to ensure the mildew or mold is removed properly that was causing the smell.
Step 1. Take the carpet and look for any mildew or mold marks on the carpet that the machine might not wash out. If you find any, just take a scrub brush along with some dish soap or detergent and brush the stain areas with warm water or whatever soap you choose to use.
Step 2. Once you brush the area and loosen up some of the stains from the mildew or mold, you can now place the carpet in the washing machine to wash out the mildew smell. Put the machine on the coldest water setting for 30 minutes, and then add your favorite laundry detergent.
Step 3. Let the machine wash the carpet, and when it is done, you can put it into the dryer and dry it properly. Ensure that the carpet is dried properly before you place it back on the floor. Once it is dry, you can enjoy your fresh smelling carpet.

Other Methods Get Mildew Smell Out Of Carpet:
The methods below should be used when your carpet isn’t dirt and mold or mildew isn’t present on the carpet. If none of that is present, you can use any of the methods below to remove the smell of the mildew. I do recommend that you wash the carpet first with any of the methods above and then use any of the methods below if you want. The two methods above will definitely remove the mildew smell permanently.
1. Using Fabreze To Get Mildew Smell Out Of Carpet
Using fabreze to remove the smell from your carpet is a great way as well, but you should only use this method if your carpet is dirty or stained by mildew. Just simply spray the carpet with the fabreze and let it sit for a few minutes, and the mildew smell should be gone within that time frame.
2. Make Your Own Air Freshener To Remove Mildew Smell
Making your own air freshener is one of the best ways to remove the smell from anything. It can be our car, bed, bathroom, and so much more places. To make this air freshener you just need to add 10-15 drops of essential oil to a spray bottle with warm water and spray your carpet or rug. This will remove the smell of mildew and leave your carpet with an amazing smell.
3. Placing The Carpet Outside To Get Air
Placing your carpet outside to get air is one of the best natural ways to remove any odor from your carpet. It can remove pet urine smells, human urine smells, and other odors like mildew in your carpets. All you need to do is place the carpet outside for a few hours in the sun until the smell is gone. Make sure to put something on it so that it doesn’t blow away.
4. Using The Dryer To Remove Mildew Smell From Carpet
Heat can get rid of a lot of things, including mildew odors. When you place the carpet in the dryer, make sure to put it on a medium setting so that it doesn’t melt the glue on the carpet that holds it together. The best time to put it on is 30 minutes, and then take it out and smell it to see if the mildew smell is gone.
Mildew is formed in a damp area, and so does the smell of it. To avoid this happening to you, just make sure that your carpet is fully dried, and this will eliminate all smells. If something spills on it, you need to wash it or dry it properly. I strongly encourage you to wash your carpet first to remove the smell properly.
