We all know the yellow look of a clear phone case can get after a few months of use. These cases show off the amazing look of our phones. I use to think that just washing the case with water will get the yellow of the case, but I was wrong.

What I have found out by experiment is that only the cheap clear cases turn yellow over time. The more expensive cases have a special coating on them that prevents this from happening. In all the cleaning methods below, remove the phone and give it a proper cleaning with some rubbing alcohol on a microfiber cleaning cloth.

How to Clean a Clear Phone Case With Baking Soda

One of the easiest ways to clean a clear phone case and remove the brown color is by using some baking soda and a toothbrush. This cleaning method only requires a few steps and your phone case will look much better.

Steps To Take:

1. Get a small bowl that can hold the entire phone in.
2. Pour 1 cup of baking soda into the bowl along with some cold water.
3. Add cold water, because warm water can change the fitment of the case on your phone.
4. Place the phone case in the water and leave it for 20 minutes.
5. Sprinkle some of the baking soda on the toothbrush and start by scrubbing the phone.
6. Repeat the scrubbing until you see the results you want.

 

How to Clean a Clear Phone Case With Dawn Dish Soap

Not everyone will have a box of baking soda at home, but they will have some sort of dish soap that they use. Hopefully, you will have a bottle of dawn dish soap which works great on stains and grease. Below is the cleaning method.

Steps To Take:

1. Get a small bowl and add cold water to it.
2. Pour half cup of dawn dish soap into the bowl and mix it around.
3. Place the brown or yellow phone case into the bowl and leave it for 1 hour to soak.
4. Use a sponge that is not rough and scrub the phone case until it is clean.
5. Rinse the phone case under running water when you are done.

 

How to Clean a Clear Phone Case With Toothpaste

Think about it, we buy whitening toothpaste to clean and remove the yellow and brown look off our teeth. We can do the same thing with our phone case that is brown or turning yellow. This will have a similar effect it has on your teeth and will make your phone case looks new again.

Steps To Take:

1.   The first thing you need to get is whitening toothpaste.
2. Add 3 tablespoons of toothpaste to a small container like a plate.
3. Sprinkle a teaspoon of baking soda if you have it on the toothpaste along with a few drops of water to wet it.
4. Mix everything together and rub it all over your phone case.
5. Leave the phone case for 1 hour and scrub it with a sponge.
6. Rinse and repeat this process if you still see a little yellow or brown look on the clear phone case.

Hydrogen peroxide is a very powerful cleaning agent if is used in the right way can bleach your hair and even your clothes if a drop gets on it. Using hydrogen peroxide on your brown or yellow phone cases will definitely remove 90% of the yellow-brown look you are seeing. You will need to make the right mixture so the hydrogen peroxide doesn’t discolor the phone case.

Steps To Take:

1. Pour 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide in a small bowl along with half a cup of water.
2. Place the phone case in the water and let it sit for 2 hours.
3. Use a sponge and scrub the phone case until you see the yellow or brown look going away.
4. Rinse and repeat this cleaning process until you get the results you want.

 

Disinfecting a clear phone case with rubbing Alcohol 

Disinfecting and cleaning your clear phone case with rubbing alcohol is one of the easiest cleaning methods you will try. This cleaning method is for clear phone cases that you see starting to get a slightly yellow look to them and you want to prevent it from getting fully yellow or brown.

Steps To Take:

1. Start by removing the phone and giving it a wipe down with some of the rubbing alcohol on a microfiber cleaning cloth. This will remove all the dirt off the phone that help to make the phone case turn brown.
2. Spray the case with some of the rubbing alcohol and wipe it down with a microfiber cleaning cloth.
3. Repeat this process until you see the phone case look new again.

 

Cleaning Your Phone Case With White Distilled Vinegar

White distilled vinegar is in everyone’s kitchen, whether it is in the cabinets or on your pantry shelves. Vinegar is quite acidic but safe enough to consume by humans. The acid in the vinegar will break down the yellow color or brown color on your phone case if you leave it over time. 

Steps To Take:

1.  Pour 2 cups of white distilled vinegar into a small container. Ensure the phone case can be totally submerged.
2. Place the phone case in the vinegar and leave it for 4 hours.
3. The vinegar will slowly break down the yellow on the phone case so you can just wipe it off when you take it out.
4. Rinse the phone case off in some soapy water to get the vinegar sent off of it.

 

How To Know When To Get A New Phone Case

They are signs that you can use to know when you need to replace your phone case instead of wasting time washing and trying to get the yellow or brown look out of it. The first sign you should look for is cracking at the edge of the case. If the edge of the case is cracked, the shock absorbers in the case will not work properly again because the structure of the case is damaged.

The next sign is when you start to see small cracks on the back of the phone case. The cracks will eventually get bigger over time. And the last sign is when your clear phone case becomes so brown or yellow it doesn’t look transparent again.

This is a quick and easy method to clean your phone case to prevent dust and bacteria build-up. Remove the phone from its case and wipe it down with a damp cloth, damped with rubbing alcohol or some soapy water. You can use a cotton swab or a toothpick to get into the grease to get the dirt out. It is as simple as that to clean your phone.
