How to Clean a Mattress With Baking Soda

We spend almost half of our lives in our beds laying down or sleeping. The sweat from your body will definitely give your mattress an odor that will make you have to steam clean it. Not everyone wants to spend 200$ on a steam cleaning machine to steam clean your mattress. 

 

So this is where this article will come in handy. You will only need to use baking soda to clean and get any odor out of your mattress. Plus a few tricks on how to make your mattress smell like any scent you want it to smell like. Let us get to cleaning your mattress with baking soda.

Below is a simple 5 step cleaning process to clean your mattress with baking soda. Do not get confused with baking powder and baking soda. Before we begin, if your mattress can be flipped on the other side. Do this every 6 months to prevent the sweat from penetrating the mattress too deep.

Steps To Take:

The first step you need to take is by removing everything off your mattress and clear the area around the mattress. This will give you the freedom to stretch and clean the mattress If it is large. Since you have taken everything off your mattress, go ahead and put them in the washing machine to wash. Having clean bedding is very important to have a clean mattress.

Now you will need to add baking soda to the mattress. Depending on the size of your mattress, you will use half a box of baking soda on a queen-size mattress and a full box of baking soda on a king-size mattress. Just pouring the baking soda on the mattress will not spend it evenly.

The trick that I use is by pouring some in my hands and letting it slide through my finger while I move my hand up and down over the mattress. Spread the baking soda section by section on the bed to get an even covering.

3.

This is the stage where you can add whatever scent you want to the mattress. You can use an air freshener, but you will not get the desired aroma you will want. For that, you can add 10 – 15 drops of essential oil to a spray bottle full of water and shake it well. Spray the entire mattress covered in baking soda until the baking soda feels a little wet. For the best smelling essential oils that will give you a relaxing feeling. Use lavender, mint, or sandalwood.

The baking soda will not just sit on top of your mattress and clean it, you will be required to massage it into the bed to give it that deep clean. Do that and leave the mattress for 3 hours to make the baking soda work. While waiting for the time to go by, clean the sides of the mattress as well as the bed frame to have a clean sleeping area.

Now it is time for you to vacuum the mattress. To ensure you vacuum all of the baking soda off your mattress, vacuum it in sections until it is clean. To give it an extra clean, you can wet a medium size towel with hot water and squeeze it out. Wipe the entire mattress with the steaming towel and you will smell the essential oil even more.
