Once you have taken everything out, wash them in the kitchen sink with warm water and dish soap. Let them dry and skip to the next step.

Step 2. Now that you have gotten everything out of the refrigerator, you can now focus on cleaning it and removing the smell. You need to make a cleaning mixture that will eliminate the smell coming from the refrigerator. Fill the cleaning container with warm water, add 1 cup of baking soda, half a cup of bleach, and 1/4 cup of dawn dish soap and mix it around.

Step 3. Dip the sponge in the water and start to wipe the inside of the refrigerator. Start from the top and dip the sponge in the water every three wipes. Once you clean a section, use a clean paper towel and wipe that is clean.

Step 4. Once you have gotten to the bottom, go over the entire section again just to make sure every stain and smell is out. Once you have done that put back all the shelves only in that section of the refrigerator, but do not put back the food in as yet.

If that was the section that had the bad smell, after you clean it leave it for 30 minutes, then turn the refrigerator back on and check again for any smell. If the smell is gone, you can put the things back in the refrigerator and use it like normal again.
