How to Get Cigarette Smell Out Of Clothes
Cigarettes have a very strong smell that stains things that it is around for too long. The first thing to get stained is your hands and then your clothes. When cigarette stains your clothes, it can get hard to get the cigarette smell out of it. This has personally happened to me before and I had to try a lot of different methods to see which one works.
The best way to get cigarette smell out of clothes is to use something that cleans and absorbs odors at the same time. Below will be the method that I use to clean my shirt that was smelling like cigarettes.
Cleaning Process To Get Cigarette Smell Out Of Clothes
Items You Will Need:
- Baking Soda
- Large Cleaning Container
- Warm Water
The cleaning Process:
Step 1: Preparing To Clean The Clothes
The first thing you want to do is separate any clothes that smell like cigarettes from others, even if the rest is dirty. Cigarette smell does transfer to other clothes easily. Next, you will need to fill a container with warm water that is enough to cover any amount of clothes you have.
Add 2 cups of baking soda to the water and mix it around for 30 seconds or 1 minute so that the baking soda can properly diffuse in the water.
Step 2: Soaking The Clothes
Soaking your clothes that have a cigarette smell on it is the best possible way to get rid of the odor. Many people add fabric softener or detergent to the soaking process, but if you do that the baking soda will absorb the fabric softener smell instead of the cigarette smell in the clothes.
All you need to do in this step is to place the clothes in the water you just made with the baking soda and mix around the clothes a little in it. Once you did that you can leave the clothes in the water for 4-5 hours to properly soak.
Step 3: Washing The Clothes:
Once the 4 – 5 hours have gone. You now need to take the clothes out of the cleaning container and dump the water and fill it with fresh clean water. Dip the clothes in the fresh water and rub the clothes together with your hands for a few minutes.
Step 4: Rinsing The Clothes
Now you need to rinse the clothes in fresh clean water. All you need to do is shake the clothes a little in the water to rinse it out. This step is similar to washing it but the more fresh water goes through the clothes the better result you will get.
Step 5: Using The Washing Machine To Finish The Job
Using the washing to finish the job is just an extra step you need to take to ensure the cigarette smell comes right out of your clothes. Take the clothes and place it in the washing machine and add your laundry detergent along with some fabric softener and put the washing machine on the hottest setting for at least 45 minutes to wash.
When the whole washing and rinsing cycle is done. You now can take the clothes and place it into the dryer if you have one and allow it to dry. When you take out your clothes, it should no longer smell like cigarettes.
The best way to deal with the cigarette smell in clothes is to clean it with this cleaning method as soon as you get home. Leaving the clothes for a few days will make the cigarette smell stain the fabric even more. And you should never mix clothe that smells like a cigarette with other clothes even if they are dirty as well.
