How to Get Burnt Rice Off Pot

This has happened to me before because I am not that good at cooking rice. Burn rice at the bottom of the pot can be hard to remove. But I have a few tricks that I learned while doing dishwashing for 4 years in a very busy restaurant.

Getting burnt rice off a pot bottom isn’t that hard once you know these tricks so let us get to them to make your stainless steel pot or any pot look new again.

To clean the burnt rice from a pot fast. Fill the pot halfway with water and add 4 tablespoons of lemon juice. Place the pot on the stove and let it boil for 20 minutes. Now just run it under the kitchen sink and the burned rice should fall out without you touching it.

1. Boil Water In Burnt The Pot

Commercial dishwashers use hot water that is over 300 degrees Fahrenheit. This is because the hot water softens up any form of food that is on plates or pots. This method can work the same for rice pots or rice cookers that have burned rice on the bottom of them. Simply add water to the put to cover the burnt rice and then let it boil for 20 minutes.

Take the pot off the stove and run it under the kitchen faucet and you will see the rice falling out. If small portions of rice is remaining you can wipe it out with a sponge or paper towel.

For rice, cookers boil water in a separate pot and pour it into the rice cooker and let it sit for 5-10 minutes and the burnt rice should be soft enough to clean out with a sponge.

2. Pour Lemon Juice Into The Pot

Lemon juice is acidic and that acid will break down the substances in the burnt rice pot bottom. Pour a cup of Lemon juice into the pot and let it sit for a few minutes the use your sponge and clean the pot. You may scrub the pot a little but it won’t be for long.

3. Leaving The Pot To Soak 

This is the classic way to get burnt rice off a pot. Leaving it to soak overnight will literally have the rice falling out as if you had just poured it in. This method should only be used if you have a next pot that you can cook the rice in if you are in a hurry or if you are not in a hurry because you use what you can from the rice already.

4. Run Hot Water In The Brunt Rice Pot

As mentioned in the first method hot water will make the rice fall out of the burnt pot bottom. But if you are in a hurry and you cannot wait the 20 minutes for the water to boil then this method is for you. 

All you need to do is run hot water from the kitchen faucet In the pot for 5 minutes and then use a sponge and clean the pot. You will do some scrubbing but the rice will be 50% easier to come out so you can use it again.

5. Mix Baking Soda And Hot Water

Mixing baking soda and vinegar together will form a very powerful cleaning mixture that you can use immediately to clean the pot bottom faster and remove the burnt rice. Pour one cup of white distilled vinegar and half a cup of baking soda into the pot bottom and mix it around.

Use your dishwashing sponge and scrub the pot bottom and in no time it will be clean. What I find works best is if you scrub the pot bottom in a horizontal or vertical direction. This will break the rice apart faster and easier.

The best way to clean a burnt rice pot is to clean it as soon as the pot comes off the stove. At this point, the rice isn’t as hard and will come out easily.
